Today I’m here to talk about one of my favorite things to wear in the spring and summer — white denim. I love white jeans. And to be honest (tbh), I don’t follow the rule of just wearing them in the summer. I read that Michael Kors says a good white pair of jeans should be a staple in your wardrobe, and can be worn year round. I took that as ‘gospel’ and I haven’t doubted myself ever again when I want to wear white denim — even in the winter. I mean, who made up that rule anyway?
It’s so easy to style them. I wear white jeans with boots and a sweater in the winter, and sandals in the summer. Or heels. Or sneakers. While it is easy to style them, what does seem difficult is finding just the right pair. That fit right. That feel right. And that look right on me.
So here are a few simple rules I follow that prove helpful for me when looking for the right pair of white denim jeans.
I always look for thicker fabric, so they won’t show every bump and dimple. Because. . . . . . don’t nobody want to see all that. #justkeepinitreal I think you know what I mean — and if you don’t — I want to know your secret for smooth legs and thighs.
I fall in to that category of sometimes wearing a small, sometimes a medium, depending on brand and fit. I am a schmedium, I guess. 🙂 I find myself wishing I was able to shop in the Junior’s Department in bigger department stores on occasion. And I sometimes might even find something I like and can wear from the Junior Department. However, when shopping for white denim jeans, I don’t venture there. The denim is usually thinner, and doesn’t work for me. It also seems there are more low-rise fitting jeans and when they say skinny jeans in juniors, they really mean skinny jeans. #workinwithamombodhere
I look for white jeans that are mid-rise. I also want them to be soft, with the right amount of stretch but don’t lose their shape. Since I might wear them more than once between washes, I need them to hold their shape.
I will also pay a little more for white jeans, because the higher-end white jeans are often thicker and fit better. I have found my white jeans at JC Penneys, Macy’s, and TJ Maxx. I have had good luck with International Concepts brand (INC), found at Macy’s, as they are a thick weighted fabric, fit well in the waist and not too tight in the thighs. You can shop for them here.
A few last tips: Sometimes sizing up one size will still fit, and help with thickness and comfort, especially if your eyeing the skinny white jeans. I try them on in the store to be sure the fit works for me. I always wash them in cold water, even if I have a stain or mark on them. But I will spot-treat them first, if needed. I don’t put them in the dryer — like ever. And never let your teenage son put your clothes in the dryer for you, because he won’t take your white jeans out first. . . . . . I’m just sayin. #lessonlearned
